Intro to Odd Metered Rhythms from The Near East, Balkans and Romani Peoples

  • ( David Machek)
  • Middle Eastern Music/Hafla/Sho on Saturday at 2:00PM

This class will provide a comprehensive framework for learning and playing odd-metered dance rhythms, commonly known as "aqsaq" rhythms in Turkish. We will focus on the dance rhythms of the Balkans and especially the music of the Romani peoples. This is a hands-on percussion class, but dancers are also welcome to come learn the easy way to count these meters.
