Going Retro: Early-music performance practice for modern instrumentalists

How is pre-Baroque (SCA period) music phrased differently from the way we learned as modern players? How do gut strings, the shape of a bow, and the composer's language convey nuance? A hands-on technique class in phrasing, arco technique, articulation, playing with texted music, and notable "not-doing" early-music conventions such as little-to-no vibrato, ritardando, or thirds in chordal accompaniment. Try out and practice these elements as a group. All instrumentalists welcome. You'll need a music stand.
