OPDB: Gurdy Gathering For Those Who Play (at least a little)
- Robyyan Torr d'Elandris ( D S)
- State Room East on Friday at 12:00PM
The One Person Dance Band series will educate the participant in historically informed instrumental choice and practice, enabling a solo performer to successfully provide music and rhythm for Renaissance dance. The hurdy-gurdy, vielle à roue (French), Drehleier (German), zanfona, viola de teclas (Spanish) is a stringed instrument that creates melody, percussion, and harmony all at the same time. It presents some unique challenges (and rewards and satisfaction) to the player. This session is a practicum for those who play at least a little. Topics to be covered will depend somewhat on the attendees, and could include coup (buzz) technique, maintenance and tuning issues, keyboard technique, and playing tunes together, among others. Bring your instrument! Reading music is not required, but may be helpful.
